WELCOME to our TES Garden Blog for the 2023-2024 school year! We can't wait for the upcoming fall-like weather so we can start growing again. Even with the extra hot and dry summer, we had some survivors....our passion vine, asparagus, butterfly weed, Malabar spinach, various herbs with BASIL being the greatest survivor/thriver. A special thank you to our PTO volunteer, Ms. Rabb, for helping with watering this summer. If you would like to be a part of helping with the garden areas, please let the front office know. We will get you connected!
We noticed some WILDLIFE survivors this summer, as well, frequented the garden areas. Bunnies, birds and butterflies enjoyed the seeds and berries that remained, as well as the periodic waterings---look carefully below, some are quite camouflaged.

....But our garden areas are still growing! Pictured below are a few of the things we're growing and harvesting...potatoes, herbs, corn, dill (with a big, fat caterpillar feasting on it), beans, pumpkin vines and flowers galore. The recent rains have been marvelous for our gardens.
We hope everyone has a wonderful summer....we'll be ready to start GROWING again in August! All the garden beds are planted, and we're excited to see all that is growing in both of the areas. Here's a quick garden trip in photos. (Be sure and look carefully at the last photo of the hummingbird moths that were spotted....VERY exciting to see!)
Here's what's happening in the garden areas. Come back in a week to see everything that is newly planted!
The uncommon December freeze we had was hard on our garden areas. There were a few survivors, however---violas, larkspur, strawberries and asparagus! We look forward to planting onions and potatoes soon and then get into full swing with our spring garden plantings in March.
LOTS of tasty greens, beautiful flowers and germinating seeds in the garden currently. The campus is full of students with green thumbs!
Hover over or look at the bottom of each picture to get details... The weather promises to be cooler, so we're ready to plant! Look below at things that have survived the heat and currently growing. We have kale, broccoli, collards, radishes, lettuce, arugula, and much more ready to go in the ground this week. Check back soon to see the progress! |
